Hello and welcome to my website!
I'm a printmaker and an illustrator in the making. I'm half Finnish, half Scottish. I lived in Finland until I was nineteen years old, and have since made my home in the town of Saffron Walden in England.
For me the pleasure in doing art is in the process. I like spending time on a piece, slowly seeing it become itself. Printmaking suits me particularly well as it is so labour intensive; each step in the process taking its own sweet time.
My alter ego is the caterer at a little primary school. I wear a black and white uniform topped off with a mesh trilby and a hair net. The youngest children at the school ask me whether I take my hat off when I go to bed in my own house.
Before I ever became to be thought of as inseparable from my caterer's hat, I studied Illustration at the Cambridge School of Art, Anglia Ruskin University. I graduated with a BA (hons) Illustration in 2008.
Illustration can simply mean providing something with pictures, decorating it. But there can be more to it than that. To illustrate something is to shed light on it, to illuminate it. An illustration can explain, it can elucidate, it can emphasize, it can encapsulate. Where some artforms might be baffling and obscure, I believe illustration ought to be self-explanatrory and user-friendly.
Because of this challenge to communicate clearly through images I find illustrating a satisfying discipline. Please have a look through my portfolio, and see just how illuminating I can be!
